Laundry Room Sign Details

So here's the details on what I used to make this laundry room sign:

So here's what you'll need if you want to do something like this (or similar). Gather the following:

Piece of wood. I bought a 13x9 oval piece of pine from Michaels. Originally I wanted a rectangle shape, but luck be me, this is what they had.

Craft paint. The colors I chose were Licorice and Parchment.

Sponge brushes and small brushes to touch up paint.

Silhouette SD machine. I used the fonts "Betty Noir" and "Airstream". I also purchased a flourish from the online store.

First paint the entire surface black, including the sides. Let dry, or if you're like me, put piece in front of fan to speed up the process.

Now paint the top only with the parchment paint. I did 2 layers, but overall I still wanted the black to peek through.

While this layer dried, I created my sign in Silhouette. I centered everything based on my solid black line. After I placed the flourish on top I copied and mirrored the image for the bottom.

After I printed the sign on the vinyl, I realized I should have made it just a wee-bit larger. I went ahead and centered the sign on the wood and rubbed it on. To make up for the blank space I took a pencil and dipped the eraser in black paint and daubbed circles all around the edge.

Now I gotta say... I LOVE the play on words with this sign. It reminds me of something from The Three Stooges LOL. My 10yr old son read the sign and giggled, because he got the joke too!

Well thanks for stopping by today. If I've inspired you do craft or create anything, then I've paid it forward for the day :-)

  6. Wow! That is so cute, and I can't get over how perfect those circles around the boarder are! What a great idea to use a pencil eraser. I still think this looks better than what I could manage. Great job!
