Original by Robert Jewelry

I had to go through my jewelry box this past weekend and started looking back at the costume jewelry I got from my Mom. Yesterday I wore all black (which is not normal for me) and I picked out a bright pink flower pin on a green stem. The front is enamel and the back is gold (I'm sure not real LOL).

Impressed on the back was a mark "Original by Robert", so I decided to so some research...

"In 1942, Robert Levy, together with David Jaffe and Irving Landsman created the Fashioncraft Jewelry Company. They were located in New York and used the marks, Original by Robert, Fashioncraft, Fashioncraft Robert and Robert. In 1960 the name of the company was changed to Robert Originals Inc.

In 1975 Jaffe's daughter, Ellen joined the company. Shortly after Robert's retirement the company name changed to "Ellen designs for Robert Originals" - 1979 and in 1984 it became "Ellen Designs".

The fabulous beaded jewelry made by this company have often been compared to the work of Miriam Haskell and Stanley Hagler due to the similar use of filigree and intricate beaded design." (Source: Penelope's Pearls)

"In The 1950's And 60's Robert created a line of enameled jewelry in Whimsical Fruits & Flowers which has become the epitome of that era." (Source: Image Event)

"These high-priced, hand-made pieces are often complex, having beads and pearls, rhinestones, enamel, and/or floral designs; they are often similar to some Miriam Haskell pieces. Robert jewelry was used in some Hollywood films, including the 1952 movie Viva Zapata." (Source: Enchanted Learning
