Monogram Pillow

I cannot even begin to describe how tickled I am over how this pillow turned out.

Anyone who circulates around the craft blogs has seen these pillows. The ones I have seen have used the "Edwardian Script" font, which is truly beautiful. I wanted to do something with a bit of a twist, and since I havne't seen one done this way, I'm taking credit for NOT completely copying someone HAHA!

I went to Hancock's on my lunch break with all intentions of getting a kahki-colored linen and either some black or cream felt. In the first row was all the pretty Spring colors... then I zeroed in on this gorgeous turquois color.

Now let me state, my style of decorating is not color-coordinated. I love ALL different kinds of colors and I just mash them up. Can't help myself LOL.

So I picked this turquoise color and had 2 yards cut, because, YEAH ME it was on sale for 40% off. Whoo-hoo! I had a 16" pillow form and knew I could get 4 pillows out of the 2 yards... I'm already thinking ahead about selling these :-)

I ventured over to the felt to decide on a color. I didn't like the cream; black was too dark. I saw a chocolate brown and thought "Let's try it." I wasn't 100% sure about it, but went with it.

I used my rotary cutter, ruler and mat to cut a 17" length of the linen. Out of that I cut a 17" square and split the rest of the length in two (I used an envelope closure on the back of the pillow).

The font I used is "Harrington", so I cut the letter out of felt, pinned to the front (which took me awhile to get centered) and stitched the letter on. I placed a 17" square of fusible batting on the pillow and machine stitched around the letter to quilt the pillow front.

The front was out of square from the quilting, so I used my rotary cutter again to square it up. I was left with a 16.5" square. I normally make my pillow smaller than the form so it's looks fuller. I sewed the front and backs together, turned and inserted the pillow form.

I am so in love with this!

This item is for sale here.

I'm linking to these great parties!

  1. I think it looks great! Was it easy to sew around the letter like that? I have a feeling mine would look, well, not nearly as nice.

  2. VERY easy. I used a walking foot that would be used for quilting. Believe me... it's not perfect. But aren't we always our own worst critics? LOL
