Painted Cabinet Door = New Sign

One weekend when Greg and I hit up a flea market we'd never been too, I found a stash of cabinet doors for $2.00 each. There were all different sizes and colors (though that didn't matter) for an awesome price. I snatched up an armfull (well... I really had Greg carry them) with ideas floating in my head of what to do with them.

My first idea is probably pretty common:

I decided to make a nameplate to hang somewhere in the house. I started out with this plain cabinet door:

It's small enough that it might even be a large drawer door. I also gathered my Parchment craft paint, some brushes, distressing ink, dark brown vinyl and my Silhouette to cut the design.

I primed the panel white, then painted two coats of Parchment craft paint. I used the font "Betty Noir" (my favorite!) for my last name and cut a Fleur-de-Lis (because we live in Louisville!)

Then I used my distressing ink and a dauber to rub into the corners and around the letters to "age" it a bit. I didn't like how some of it turned out so I went back over it with the craft paint to tone it down.

I really like how this little project turned out. Now I just have to decide where to put it in the house!
