Madonna Met Gala 2011

This is the first time I've ever felt the need to write about something a celebrity wore. I am so smitten with Madonna's dress that she wore to the 2011 Met Gala:

I do believe that Stella McCartney is the designer. First of all, this is a GORGEOUS color! It goes so well with her skin AND hair color. Secondly, do you SEE that embroidery??? I'm dying over here. I just love it!

The front of this dress is VERY 1940's. The way the bodice is cut can be so flattering to MANY figures- show off your assets girl and hide the rest I say...

Her hair and make-up really gave a "Veronica Lake" kind of vibe. Just enough jewelry- PERFECTION!

Must Have Shoe {10.15.10}

I can't believe how long it's been since I looked for shoes on the net! I can daydream all I want, but we all know in reality my bumbling butt cannot walk in platform or high heel shoes. Ever since I fractured a bone on the top of my foot when I was 13, it's been a pain to elevate my feet or even run for a distance for fear of my ankle giving out.

So anyway, let the dreaming begin:

OMG! How adorable is this? I found it at Daddy O's (one of my favorite places to daydream) and this is a new one. They describe it as: "Capturing vintage glamour, this is a two-toned perforated tan and dark navy shoe with a red ribbon tie and red trim. This shoe is not an accessory, it will MAKE your outfit!". Oh hells yeah!

This would be too cute with a navy pencil skirt and simple blouse. Or maybe a red 40's dress that buttons down the front and lapel collar? I could go on and on...
What about this cute little number I found at StyleHive? It's definitely got the colors to match the shoes.

Bed Sheet Dress #1

Greg thinks I am absolutely crazy LOL. Sometimes I can be, but I think this was a win-win situation.

One day at the American Council for the Blind thrift store, I was browsing the racks of fabric and bed sheets. I found a pretty king size sheet, and thought "What about a retro dress outta this sheet?" When I got home, I narrowed down Butterick 5209 to make the dress:

Now let me tell you, it is NOT easy to cut a pattern out of a king sized sheet on a dining room table. I thought I was going to have to put the extra leaf in it to accomodate this under taking. But after some stares from Greg, the kids, and the cats thinking they had a tent to play in (because the sheet puddled on the floor), I got the dress cut out.

Originally I was going to make the version that included the back and cap sleeve. I'm a bit modest (my friends WOULD say otherwise) when showing so much exposed skin. I eventually changed my mind and did the halter version.



I am wearing a chocolate shrug because yes, I am being modest. This dress is going to last forever because it's a poly-cotton blend. It is so soft on my skin (of course) and was a BREEZE to sew. The top is fully lined with the same fabric. There's enough left over I might make my daughter a dress... but I doubt she'll wear it since she's a bit of a tom-girl (I can keep dreaming) LOL

New Pattern Purchases!

I went CRAZY for the sale on Vogue, Butterick and McCalls patterns. Man did I spend some money... but when the patterns are 2.99-3.99 EACH, how can you possibly pass up getting some Vintage Vogue???
