Charcoal Gray Linen Clutch

Clutches like this are big enough to carry your everyday items, and quick enough to sew in a cinch! I created a very simple pattern (hopefully for sale soon) to whip up these clutches out of a variety of materials. This clutch was made from a Brussels Washer Linen I purchased from Fabric.com. It's a 55/45 Linen/Rayon blend, and when combined with interfacing and batting, makes a sturdy clutch that will be used again and again.

Photobucket

I used a Silhouette flourish design to make a stencil for painting. Remember, if you use a fabric medium, you can use ANY of the bottles of acrylic paint on your items. Without the medium the paint will eventually rub off your fabric :-(

New Large Linen Flare Tote

I have made so many of these flare totes I can almost sew them blindfolded! This tote is a larger version of the pattern, and I decided to spice it up a bit by using linen and stenciling a flower on the front.

Photobucket

I used my Silhouette machine to cut a flower image out of vinyl. I then adhered the negative of the vinyl to the front of the bag to fill in the stencil. I used a craft paint in the color "Wasabi Green" for my color. Remember to use a fabric medium with your craft paints so it will adhere properly and not rub off *life experience*

Photobucket

I picked up some braided faux leather handle on a recent trip to Joann Fabrics. They are long enough for the tote to sit on my shoulder and tuck neatly under your arm.

Currently for sale at my Etsy store: Item No. 97929450 $35.00

Stenciled Bathroom Cabinet Doors {+Freebie}

One of my ideas in sprucing up my bathroom was to stencil something on my vanity cabinet doors. I Googled some flourish clipart and I found a piece that I liked.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Photobucket

I cut two mirrored images out of some vinyl and used the negative space. I've been using various shades of blue and turquoise in the room so went with the first paint I out my hands on.

I removed the vinyl almost immediately after dabbing on the paint with a sponge dauber. I'm really digging on this bathroom in coming together.

Now the freebie part- I've uploaded this Silhouette design to my 4Shared account to share with you! Click here to download the file. Enjoy!

Painted Cabinet Door = New Sign

One weekend when Greg and I hit up a flea market we'd never been too, I found a stash of cabinet doors for $2.00 each. There were all different sizes and colors (though that didn't matter) for an awesome price. I snatched up an armfull (well... I really had Greg carry them) with ideas floating in my head of what to do with them.

My first idea is probably pretty common:

Photobucket

I decided to make a nameplate to hang somewhere in the house. I started out with this plain cabinet door:

Photobucket

It's small enough that it might even be a large drawer door. I also gathered my Parchment craft paint, some brushes, distressing ink, dark brown vinyl and my Silhouette to cut the design.

I primed the panel white, then painted two coats of Parchment craft paint. I used the font "Betty Noir" (my favorite!) for my last name and cut a Fleur-de-Lis (because we live in Louisville!)

Photobucket

Then I used my distressing ink and a dauber to rub into the corners and around the letters to "age" it a bit. I didn't like how some of it turned out so I went back over it with the craft paint to tone it down.

Photobucket

I really like how this little project turned out. Now I just have to decide where to put it in the house!

Burlap Poodle Pillow

I had an idea swirling in my head to stencil a poodle onto some burlap, stitch the burlap to a pillow front and fray the edges.

Photobucket

I'm still not sure how I feel about it though. Don't get me wrong, I like it, but sometimes my ideas are different in my head. Here's the details on how I did it.

I "Googled" the words 'poodle clipart' and found this image:

Source

I opened the picture in the Silhouette software and traced the clipart.

Photobucket

One mistake I did was selecting the vinyl color to cut this out LOL. Originally, I'm thinking "pick a color that's not your favorite because you only using the negative space". So I picked orange. BUT- I still have the positive poodle space on the ORANGE vinyl... If I picked another color, like pink or even purple, I could have used THAT for ANOTHER project. I made a mental note to think further ahead next time...

My pillow form is a 12" square, so I cut a piece of burlap slightly smaller to zig-zag stitch to the front. The poodle is about 8" tall. I mixed some textile medium into some turquoise-y paint to stencil the front.

After that dried I stitched the burlap to the front and pulled strings to fray the edges. I added some colored rhinestones (purchased for scrapbooking) to the poodle's neck like a collar.

Photobucket

The pillow casing itself is a 12.5" square (I like them snug on the pillow form), made from cream cotton that looks like muslin. The back is an envelope to change it out for another pillow case when I want to change my mind... Because I'm a woman and that's our perogative LOL.

Photobucket

And of course my calico cat DANCER had to get in on the photography. Maybe she was checking out the pillow to make sure it's not a real dog?

Father's Day Water Bottles

Today I've got a quick, inexpensive, but not necessarily easy Father's Day gift idea. I say it's not easy because I had an impatient 10 year old boy trying to help with me it. If I had done this before I'd already know if how we did it was an easy or hard way. Oh well.

Photobucket

I bought a couple of steel colored aluminum water bottles from Deals for $1 each. I then purchased and downloaded the Silhouette file number_1_dad_C00626_18816 by Loni Harris.

I asked my son Trevor to pick out 2 vinyl colors. We were decorating a bottle for his Dad (my ex-husband) and his Step-Dad. Trevor picked out navy and green for his Dad, and navy and white for Greg. Since Greg is a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan he thought that color scheme was appropriate!

So we cut out the colors and did our best to line everything up on top of each other on a cylinder shape. It was NOT easy LOL but we do like how they each turned out.

Father's Day Gift {FAIL}

I've been whipping out little gifts here and there with my new Silhouette. I even received my vinyl shipment so I've been going to town with that. Today I want to share with you my FAILED Father's Day gift.

Why is it a FAIL? Even though this is a cute tee-shirt:

Seriously, how funny is this? A lot of men refer to their wives as "Trophy Wife", but how many women turn the tables? That was my idea...

Here's a close up:

Now, my husband truly is my trophy :-) He works hard, loves MY children as if they're his own, and supports me in all my crazy endeavors. So I was pretty pysched about making him this tee-shirt.

And then he tried it on...

IT'S TOO SMALL FOR HIM!

Huh? I grabbed it from his stash of tee-shirts! But he tried it on and said it was too small :-( That's why I don't have a picture of him wearing it :-( :-(

But my FAIL can be your gain! I'm sharing this file for you ladies who'd like to create a heat transfer tee for your hubbies so they know they're a prize.

Just make sure you pick a tee that's the right size LOL

Click here to download the file from 4shared.

Silhouette Project {+ Freebie}

Isn't it funny how one little project leads to another?

I make my own laundry detergent using one of the numerous recipes floating around the internet. I normally make liquid form, but wound up letting my batch get too low to whip another one up to be ready on time. We can't just wear dirty clothes (well, we could but what kind of Mother would I be? LOL).

So I decided to make a dry detergent. So that lead to needing a container to put it in which lead to using the Silhouette and black vinyl to make a label.

The label is about 4"x4". Anyone else who has a Silhouette can download it here. I uploaded the file to 4shared.com to be able to share it with my bloggy friends!

What's Up With That?!

We officially have a running joke at work.

It all started when Gwen was humming a song and she couldn't remember where she heard it. Then David heard her, and realized that she was humming a song to an SNL sketch "What's Up With That?!"

The co-worker Tara decided to make David a tee-shirt that said "Oooo weeeee. What's up with that?!" I probably won't be able to get a picture of him wearing it, but I hope someday I will.

So just imagine a group of ladies breaking out into song (and dance, which is scary in itself) out of no where.

That's how our workplace is right now. Just laughing and cutting up.

I decided to take it up a notch and make a pillow for Tara. I wanted it a bit on the ornate side, and this is what I came up with:

It's a simple little 10.5" x 10.5" pillow. I used some of my thrifted black bedsheet (you can see all the fiberfill fuzzies). I used my Silhouette to cut out the words and frame from my heat transfer.

What do you think? I can't wait for Tara's reaction when I give it to her Monday :-)

Updated Old Navy Shirt

Ever since I got my Silhouette SD, my son Trevor has been BUGGING me to make him a shirt. He initially had all these outrageous ideas floating around in his head (I wonder where he GETS that), and I finally got him settled on this:

Trevor is a BIG baseball player. He's only played 2 seasons and he's already got the game in his blood. Honestly he should. His grandfather (my Dad) started playing in high school, and was invited to try out for the Detroit Tigers in the 1950's. My Dad passed on that (his ties to Louisville were too strong), so he played on local leagues, then coached when he could no longer play.

Trevor's Dad (my ex) has been a softball player ever since I met him when I was 19 years old. So in essence, I've spent my WHOLE life watching one man or another in my life playing ball.

And I wouldn't change it for the world!

I talked Trevor into Silhouette's design [baseball_phrase_C00207_20387] by Jamie Koay. He dug in his chest of drawers for a shirt that DIDN'T have anything on it. He had a time with that! He finally found an Old Navy shirt that was black and grey. He wanted the light blue color on the grey. He's so happy and I'm tickled that he's off my back to decorate a shirt for him LOL.

Be Nice or LEAVE

I was browsing laundry room ideas at Houzz and saw this sign:

KitchenLab eclectic laundry room

The wheels in my head started turning to figure out how to use this inspiration. I had a thrifted black sheet, my Silhouette AND some newly purchased heat transfer. So this is what I came up with:

I cut two 13" x 20" rectangles from the black sheet for the front and back of my pillow. I used the Silhouette to cut my words from the heat transfer. I used white and hot pink. Since so much transfer was wasted, I may use contact paper or freezer paper and make a stencil to paint the words.

Now I need to decide where I want to put the pillow :-)

Laundry Room Sign Details

So here's the details on what I used to make this laundry room sign:

So here's what you'll need if you want to do something like this (or similar). Gather the following:

Piece of wood. I bought a 13x9 oval piece of pine from Michaels. Originally I wanted a rectangle shape, but luck be me, this is what they had.

Craft paint. The colors I chose were Licorice and Parchment.

Sponge brushes and small brushes to touch up paint.

Silhouette SD machine. I used the fonts "Betty Noir" and "Airstream". I also purchased a flourish from the online store.

First paint the entire surface black, including the sides. Let dry, or if you're like me, put piece in front of fan to speed up the process.

Now paint the top only with the parchment paint. I did 2 layers, but overall I still wanted the black to peek through.

While this layer dried, I created my sign in Silhouette. I centered everything based on my solid black line. After I placed the flourish on top I copied and mirrored the image for the bottom.

After I printed the sign on the vinyl, I realized I should have made it just a wee-bit larger. I went ahead and centered the sign on the wood and rubbed it on. To make up for the blank space I took a pencil and dipped the eraser in black paint and daubbed circles all around the edge.

Now I gotta say... I LOVE the play on words with this sign. It reminds me of something from The Three Stooges LOL. My 10yr old son read the sign and giggled, because he got the joke too!

Well thanks for stopping by today. If I've inspired you do craft or create anything, then I've paid it forward for the day :-)
