My Love for A Green Dress

I have a slight obsession with movie musicals. I adore movies like Grease and Moulin Rouge. Mainly because of the fashions involved with the musicals. I have found a new musical and dress that I'm obsessed with.

Truth be told, I don't particularly care for Christina Aguilera. I've never really cared for singers who sing mostly about sex, etc. She's not as bad as Britney, and there's been a few songs of hers I've liked.

So here recently my husband and I switched to Direct TV and we have a plethora of new movie channels to choose from. That's when I saw the movie "Burlesque". I love Cher, I love Stanley Tucci so I thought "What the heck".

I didn't buy that Christina's character was from Iowa. I can buy into people from little po-dunk towns have big dreams and want to move to the big city. But just the way she looked "living" in Iowa didn't cut it with me.

So let's cut to the chase. I loved most of the costumes in "Burlesque".

I would totally wear this number while doing housework. I would shimmy and shake while vacuuming the living room every day of the week LOL.

This little pearl number is just WOWSA to me. Christina sings a song about a man "taking his time" (if you know what I mean). I wonder how Greg would like something like this LOL.

But my end all, be all favorite dress is this one:

I just adore the graceful neckline and color of this dress. With Christina's hair and makeup, it almost didn't even LOOK like her. I'm honestly thinking about trying to find a way to incorporate this look into mine when I dress up to go out. Love LOVE LOVE!!!

Strait-Jacket (1964)

I still do not understand how the Derby party steered towards finding a movie on Fearnet to watch... but it did.

We were at Brian's house this past Saturday for Kentucky Derby 137. As our buzzes subsided, because we started early with the cocktails, a group of us chilled in the living room trying to find a movie to watch. This is what we settled on:

We honestly giggled at so many parts of this movie. But you can also see how suspenseful it would have been back in the day too.

At first I couldn't get past the immaculate curls in their hair or the clothes. I LOVED the clothes! This is a synopsis of the movie:

The movie opens with shocking betrayal. Lucy Harbin (Joan Crawford) returns from a journey only to find her husband (Lee Majors) in bed with another woman. She spins into a murderous rampage. With an axe, she evens the score by lopping of the heads of her adulterous husband and his mistress with a big, shiny axe. Her revenge is the fuel for local legend, but the price is twenty years in a mental intuition.

When Crawford is released from custody (fully recovered) the story begins.

The prison bus drops Crawford off at the home of her sweet and innocent daughter, who is very popular and happens to be dating the richest boy in town. She also watched as her mother brutally murdered two people, including her father, but in spite of life's little setbacks, Diane Harbin is perfectly fine.

With such a humdrum cast of characters, it seems strange when headless corpses start showing up all over town. Who could the murderer be?

And of course, SOMEONE at the party had to make a "Mommie Dearest" reference by yelling out "Christina! Brick me the ax!" My friends I'm telling ya!

Gentlemen Prefer Blondes (1953)

I watched this movie TWICE yesterday! I just love the singing and dancing. I am more a Jane Russell fan than Marilyn Monroe. I even had my son watching a bit with me too LOL

Lorelei Lee and Dorothy Shaw are showgirls and best friends. Lorelei is engaged to Gus Esmond, who is willing to do and buy anything for her. His father does not approve of her. Lorelei and Gus are planning to sail to France and get married, but Esmond Sr. stops his son. Lorelei wants to go to France anyway and Dorothy accompanies her. Gus warns Lorelei that she has to behave because if his father hears of bad behavior, they will never be allowed to marry. Esmond Sr. has hired a private detective, Ernie Malone, to spy on Lorelei. Malone ends up falling in love with Dorothy. Lorelei meets Sir Francis "Piggy" Beekman who owns a diamond mine. Lorelei uses her charm to entice him.

Lorelei invites him over to the cabin. Unknown to them, Malone is spying through the window and takes pictures of them flirting. Dorothy sees him. She tells Lorelei that Malone has the pictures and the two come up with a scheme to get the film. They invite him to their cabin for drinks and turn the heat up. Lorelei mixes him a strong drink and puts sleeping pills in it. They find the film in his trouser pocket. Piggy is relieved that his wife won't see the pictures. Lorelei persuades him to give her his wife's tiara as a thank you present. Malone has been audiotaping them. In Paris, the women spend everything they have. When they arrive at the hotel, they find out that Lady Beekman doesn't know the truth about the tiara. Considering Lorelei a thief, Gus has stopped her line of credit.

Without money or a place to live, Lorelei and Dorothy get jobs as nightclub singers. Beekman somehow steals back the tiara. When the police come after Lorelei, she is persuaded by Dorothy to return it, but she finds it missing. Gus has come to see the show and Dorothy tells Lorelei that she has to get the money for the tiara from him. In the meantime, she allows the police to arrest her saying that she is Lorelei. At the court, she pretends to be Lorelei. The insurance man has poor sight and only remembers Lorelei's blond hair, unable to recognize that Dorothy is wearing a wig. Dorothy puts on a show in the middle of the courtroom, annoying the judge.

Malone and Esmond Sr. arrive at the airport and see Piggy, who tells Malone to tell Lorelei that he is sorry for what he did. Malone agrees to tell her, and leaves. They arrive at the court to testify against Lorelei, but Dorothy is on the stand and tells Malone that she is in love with him but will never forgive him if he does anything to hurt Lorelei. Malone refuses to testify against her. He realizes who has the tiara and tracks it down to Beekman who is still at the airport. He brings the tiara to the court where it is "legally" returned to its rightful owner, Sir Beekman. Meanwhile, back at the nightclub, Lorelei tells the elder Esmond, "I don't want to marry your son for his money, I want to marry him for your money - because a man being rich is like a girl being pretty." She also explains to him that if he had a daughter, he would want the best for her, and that it is only fair for her to want the same. Once he is convinced that Lorelei isn't "stupid", he gives his permission for her to marry his son. The two girls proceed to have a double wedding. Dorothy marries Malone and Lorelei marries Gus.
